Our Legacy
Bayucuá Stud has been breeding Angus since 1906, under the management of Don Antonio Mattos.
We have always boosted the state of the arts technology; the first AI, development controls, performance tests and for the last two decades, the unconditional support in the implementation of the First Breeding Evaluation Service conducted in Uruguay, which has generated the National EPD. In this instance Bayucuá Stud provided great deal of the information possessed by having weighed all our animals (including birth weight since 1958).
Working together with Genia Labs (Uruguay) we have supported the first DNA test for tenderness and marbling service in South America, as well as the concept of Biological Identity Certificate.
We have managed to improve significantly the EPD for weaning and mature weight, keeping the birth weight controlled.
Nowadays, after celebrating our centenary, we lead the industry in Uruguay. Bayucuá Angus is not only at the top of the shows, but also in the fields of hundreds of satisfied commercial breeders.
The stud is currently managed by the fifth generation of the Mattos family, passionate about the breed and its genetic improvement.
Bayucuá aims, in terms of customers, to provide animals of moderate size, healthy, fertile and long-lived, to allow therefore an increase in the value of beef production in a grass-fed based system.
To achieve this, all information available is used through our Safe genetic and total health program.
